Bricco di Neive takes its name from the hilltop — the “bricco” — rising directly above the village of Neive, one of the highest points in the Barbaresco DOCG zone. At 230–300 metres on calcareous clay and marl soils, this is a site of particular geological character: the higher altitude, more compact soils, and exposed hilltop position contribute to Nebbiolo of greater structural intensity and mineral definition than is typical of the lower-lying Neive vineyards.

Barbaresco from Bricco di Neive shows a tighter, more vertically structured character than the floral, immediately expressive MGAs of the Barbaresco village commune: the nose leads with dried rose, iron, and mineral earth rather than the open, perfumed character of pure Tortonian sites. The palate delivers firm tannins, high acidity, and a long, saline mineral finish that demands patience — eight to twelve years of cellaring before the wine achieves its best balance. In the finest vintages, Bricco di Neive produces Barbaresco that rivals the great Asili and Santo Stefano wines for structure and longevity, though it rarely commands the same critical or market recognition. It is a site for the serious Nebbiolo collector: demanding, genuine, and rewarding in proportion to the attention invested.
