Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 September 2026

This site is a personal wine publication operated by Orazio Campoli from California, United States. It sells nothing, requires no account, and collects as little about you as it reasonably can. This page explains what is collected and what your rights are.

What is collected

  • Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets cookies and records a truncated IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and the pages you view. It is configured to measure traffic, not to identify you, and the data is not used for advertising.
  • Email you send. If you write to [email protected], your address and message are kept in the ordinary course of correspondence so that I can reply.
  • Server and security logs. The host (SiteGround) and the content delivery network (Cloudflare) keep standard access logs, including IP addresses, in order to serve the site and protect it from abuse.
  • Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe, your email address is collected and stored by Automattic (WordPress.com), which operates the subscription and sends the mail on my behalf. It is used for nothing except sending you new writing from this site. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes you from the list.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment, the name, email address and website you enter are stored, along with your IP address and browser user agent. The email address is not published and is not added to any mailing list. If you tick the box to be remembered, cookies keep those details in your browser so you need not retype them.
  • Web fonts. Pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your IP address and browser details reach Google’s servers in order to deliver the font files.

There are no ads, no advertising trackers and no data brokers on this site.

What is never done

Your personal information is not sold, and it is not shared for cross-context behavioural advertising. It is not rented or traded, and it is not passed to anyone beyond the service providers named above, who process it only in order to run the site.

Cookies

The cookies set here are the Google Analytics measurement cookies, plus any strictly necessary cookies WordPress needs to serve pages. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s opt-out add-on; the site will continue to work normally either way.

Your rights in California

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request its deletion, to request its correction, to opt out of its sale or sharing — neither of which occurs here — and to receive equal service whether or not they exercise these rights.

To make a request, write to [email protected]. I will verify it by replying to the address it came from, and respond within 45 days.

Your rights in the EU, EEA and UK

If you are reading from the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom, the GDPR and equivalent UK law give you the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form.

The lawful basis for analytics is legitimate interest — understanding which wine writing is actually read, so that I can write more of what is useful — balanced against the limited and non-identifying nature of the data. The lawful basis for handling email you send is your own act of sending it, and for the newsletter it is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any issue. The lawful basis for storing a comment is your own act of submitting it. You may object to analytics processing at any time by writing to [email protected] or by using the browser controls described above, and you have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Data is processed in the United States. Google’s transfers are covered by its own standard contractual clauses and its EU–US Data Privacy Framework certification.

Retention

Analytics data is retained on Google’s default schedule. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies read in sequence, and are deleted on request. Correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful and deleted on request. Server logs rotate on the host’s normal cycle.

Children

This site covers alcoholic beverages and is not directed to anyone under 21. Information is not knowingly collected from children.
