Nervo is a south-facing MGA in the Treiso commune at 240–310 metres on calcareous clay and marl soils — a geological profile typical of Treiso’s higher-elevation vineyards, where the Tortonian marls are mixed with lighter, well-drained clay formations. The commune’s position at the southern end of the Barbaresco DOCG, combined with its generally higher elevation compared with Barbaresco village, gives all Treiso MGAs a particular freshness and mineral definition that distinguishes them from the softer, more immediately expressive output of the northern communes.

Barbaresco from Nervo displays the Treiso character with confidence: rose petal, dried cherry, and Mediterranean herb on the nose; firm tannins, high natural acidity, and a clean, mineral finish that demands patience before revealing its full aromatic range. The wines are typically ready after eight to twelve years of cellaring, at which point the initial structural firmness softens and the wine’s complexity begins to emerge — leather, truffle, dried flowers, and mineral earth building across a plateau that can extend for a further decade. Nervo is not a name that generates headlines in international markets, but it is a genuine Treiso MGA of honest quality and clear terroir expression — a site that contributes essential understanding of what Barbaresco achieves at its more elevated, mineral, and age-demanding register.
