Scarrone is a south-southeast-facing MGA in the Castiglione Falletto commune, at 260–320 metres on mixed marl and limestone soils that place it in the geological transition zone between the Tortonian and Helvetian formations. This boundary position — characteristic of much of Castiglione Falletto’s terroir — gives the wines from Scarrone a balanced profile: aromatic precision from the Tortonian element combined with structural definition from the limestone content.

Barolo from Scarrone shows the elegant, composed character collectors have come to associate with Castiglione Falletto’s better MGAs: rose petal, red cherry, and dried herbs on the nose, with fine tannins, good acid backbone, and a clean, mineral finish on the palate. The wines occupy a comfortable middle ground — neither as immediately expressive as fully Tortonian La Morra sites nor as austerely structured as Helvetian-dominant Serralunga — but they hold this position with confidence and consistency. Scarrone is a genuine single-vineyard Barolo with honest character, capable of developing interest over eight to fifteen years. It demonstrates the reliable quality achievable across Castiglione Falletto’s vineyard portfolio beyond the most celebrated headline names.
