Tre Stelle is a south-facing MGA in the Barbaresco village commune, at 160–210 metres on Tortonian blue-grey marl soils — the calcareous-clay geological formation that defines the Barbaresco zone’s characteristic aromatic and textural profile. The MGA’s name — “three stars” — reflects the Piedmontese tradition of naming vineyards after local landmarks, celestial observations, and family associations that gave sites their identity before formal MGA registration.
The wines from Tre Stelle display Barbaresco commune’s typical grace: rose petal, cherry, dried herbs, and a light mineral note on the nose; medium-weight, silky tannins on the palate with good acid backbone and a clean, fragrant finish. The Tortonian soils produce Nebbiolo of genuine textural finesse — less demanding in youth than the Serravallian MGAs but equally capable of developing complexity with age. Tre Stelle is best approached after six to ten years, at which point the initial tannic firmness has softened and the wine’s aromatic complexity begins to emerge fully. It is not one of Barbaresco’s most celebrated names, but it is a reliable, honest expression of the commune’s best qualities — a site where Tortonian terroir performs with consistency and the wine rewards attention without demanding the patience required by the great Nebbiolo crus of Serralunga.
