I have reviewed one wine from Bianchi: the 2024 Bianchi “Il Rosato” Piemonte Rosato (95 points).
Bianchi is a new venture from the Pasquero-Elia family, the force behind Paitin, one of the oldest traditional estates in Barbaresco, which the family has farmed in Neive since 1796. Paitin is known for austere, long-lived Barbaresco from its historic Serraboella vineyard, made with long macerations and ageing in large Slavonian botti. Bianchi gives the family a fresh, modern canvas to explore other expressions of their Piedmontese terroir.
“Il Rosato” shows the versatility of Nebbiolo. While the family’s Barbaresco demands years of cellaring, this wine captures the grape’s youthful energy. The fruit, from the calcareous-clay soils of the Langhe, is picked specifically for rosé to keep high acidity and given only a brief maceration for colour without heavy tannins. Pale salmon in the glass, it trades Nebbiolo’s darker notes for wild strawberry, white peach and crushed rose petals, and it is crisp, bone dry and electric, with a savory mineral snap. It is a seasonal aperitivo and a lovely match for fresh goat cheese or a spring pea risotto.
