Feudi di San Gregorio

I have reviewed five wines from Feudi di San Gregorio, from the 2001 to 2022 vintages, across Irpinia, Falanghina del Sannio and Greco di Tufo. Most are Aglianico. Scores range from 90 to 94, averaging 92; the highest is the 2016 Feudi di San Gregorio “Serpico” Irpinia (94 points). Feudi di San Gregorio also features in one journal article on this site.

Founded in 1986, Feudi di San Gregorio is widely recognized as the driving force behind Campania’s modern winemaking renaissance. Where Mastroberardino had protected the region’s traditional grapes, Feudi opened a new era, transforming Campania into a modern wine region that drew international attention. Based in the hills of Irpinia, the estate balances deep reverence for Aglianico, Fiano, Greco and Falanghina with state-of-the-art viticulture and winemaking.

Serpico is the icon: Aglianico from ancient, pre-phylloxera vines, powerful, complex and deeply expressive, and it ages remarkably — I have reviewed both the 2001 and the 2016. Cutizzi, a single-vineyard Greco di Tufo, shows the grape’s saline, mineral core with more complexity and precision than a standard bottling. The Falanghina del Sannio is the introduction to the Feudi style, bright and crisp with white flowers and green apple, and Visione, a savory rosé of Aglianico, is one of the most versatile food wines in the range.

Together they show the diversity of Campania’s volcanic soils, from vividly aromatic whites to structured, long-lived reds, all made with elegance and authentic regional character.
