2021 Fletcher “Recta Pete” Barbaresco

I have reviewed one wine from Fletcher: the 2021 Fletcher “Recta Pete” Barbaresco (96 points).
David Fletcher is an anomaly in the Langhe: an Australian winemaker who has become a respected insider in Piedmont. While working as a winemaker for Ceretto, he launched his own project, Fletcher, based in the old railway station of Barbaresco. He works with old vineyards, organic farming, open fermentations and minimal intervention, bringing a New World attention to detail to Old World terroir.
His Barbarescos are elegant, perfumed and among the purest in the appellation. “Recta Pete” shows the approach: fully destemmed Nebbiolo, fermented with a low-intervention hand and aged 24 months in used 300-litre barrels. The 2021 is real Barbaresco, with dark cherry, ripe plum and layers of rose petals, structured tannins and a mineral finish, classic and refreshing at once, where tradition meets an unexpected twist.
