When we talk about the historical "Grand Crus" of the Langhe, Cerequio is always part of the conversation. Straddling the border of La Morra and Barolo, this magnificent amphitheater of vines is famous for producing wines of unparalleled balsamic complexity and power.
The nose is instantly recognizable. It completely bypasses heavy, extracted fruit, offering instead a soaring, high-toned wave of wild mint, eucalyptus, and crushed black tea leaves. Beneath those classic Cerequio balsamic notes lies a precise, "crunchy" core of red cherry, blood orange, and a distinct, cooling ferrous minerality.
There is no other Cerequio at this price point, this is an absolute deal.
About the ProducerThe Boroli family, successful Piedmontese entrepreneurs, founded their wine estate in the 1990s with a clear goal: benchmark Barolo. Once associated with the modernist movement, the estate returned more than a decade ago to traditional winemaking and large oak casks, and that shift has unlocked the character of its vineyards. Oenologist Cristiano Garella now guides the wines.
Brunella, a monopole entirely within Castiglione Falletto on sandy soils, is the clearest expression of the change: perfumed, straight and vertical, with a saline snap and serious, chalky tannins. Villero, one of the most historically significant crus of Castiglione Falletto, is powerful and limestone-driven, with iron, wild mint and licorice root. Cerequio, the great amphitheatre on the border of La Morra and Barolo, gives its famous balsamic complexity — mint, eucalyptus and black tea over a crunchy core of red cherry and blood orange.
In the classic 2021 vintage, all three showed the depth, structure and tar-and-roses complexity of traditional Barolo.
