Cannubi is arguably the most famous and historically significant hill in Barolo. Its magic lies in its unique geology, where the two primary soil types of the region—the sandier Tortonian soils and the heavier Serravallian (Helvetian) marl converge.
This "marriage" of soils creates what many consider to be the most complete and harmonious Barolo. Cannubi wines possess a rare balance of power and elegance, structure and perfume. They offer intoxicating aromatics of rose and red fruits, backed by a refined tannic structure and remarkable complexity. It is a wine that captures the very essence of Barolo in a single bottle.
About the ProducerPoderi Einaudi was founded in 1897 by Luigi Einaudi, who later became the first President of the Italian Republic. The estate is a champion of the Dogliani appellation and helped raise Dolcetto from an afterthought to a serious, age-worthy wine tied to the region’s identity. Today, under Matteo Sardagna Einaudi, it also makes traditionally styled Barolos from prized crus.
Cannubi, arguably Barolo’s most famous hill, is where the region’s two main soils meet — the sandier Tortonian and the heavier Serravallian marl — giving a rare balance of power and perfume, rose and red fruit on refined tannins. Bussia, one of the largest and most renowned crus of Monforte d’Alba, on clay and limestone, is the muscular one: dark fruit, tar and tobacco on a robust frame that demands patience. Terlo – Costa Grimaldi, on Tortonian blue-grey marl in the village of Barolo, is structured yet elegant, with licorice, earth and floral notes.
In the classic 2021 vintage, Einaudi’s Bussia showed the dark-fruited power of Monforte, while Cannubi captured the essence of Barolo in a single bottle.
