Brunella occupies southwest-facing terrain at 260–320 metres within the Castiglione Falletto commune, on mixed marl and limestone soils that blend elements of the Tortonian and Helvetian geological formations. This transitional soil composition is characteristic of Castiglione Falletto’s position at the heart of the Barolo zone — between the soft, aromatic Tortonian west and the compact, mineral Helvetian east — lending the wines a particular combination of aromatic clarity and structural precision.
Barolo from Brunella displays the defining traits of the Castiglione Falletto style: precise aromatic expression — rose petal, cherry, tobacco — allied to firm but fine-grained tannins and a long, mineral finish that rewards extended cellaring. The wines are neither as immediately generous as La Morra nor as austere as Serralunga, occupying instead the intelligent middle ground that makes Castiglione Falletto the ideal commune for those seeking balance above all. Brunella is not one of the most famous MGAs in the commune — that distinction belongs to Villero, Rocche di Castiglione, and Monprivato — but it is a reliable source of honest, site-faithful Barolo that repays patience across eight to fifteen years in the cellar.
