Case Nere is a south-facing MGA in the La Morra commune, positioned at 260–320 metres on the Tortonian blue-grey marls that define the western Barolo zone’s aromatic signature. The name — “black houses” in Piedmontese dialect, referring to stone farmhouses darkened by centuries of weathering — anchors this vineyard in La Morra’s agricultural history, where individual parcels were traditionally identified by local landmarks rather than formal cartographic designations.

The wines from Case Nere display the classic La Morra profile in its most accessible form: floral on the nose, with rose petal, violet, and dried herbs leading into red cherry and a light mineral note; silky on the palate, with tannins that soften within five to eight years of vintage and a finish that is clean, persistent, and genuinely pleasurable. Case Nere lacks the height and structural complexity of the great La Morra hilltop sites — it is a mid-altitude vineyard producing Barolo of the middle register — but within that register it performs consistently and honestly. For those new to La Morra Barolo seeking a reliable entry point, or for collectors wanting genuine commune character without the waiting time demanded by Brunate or Cerequio, Case Nere is a shrewd and satisfying choice.
