Neirane sits on the southern slopes of the Verduno commune at 240–300 metres, on mixed calcareous clay and marl soils that blend attributes of the Tortonian formation with lighter alluvial influences. The south-facing aspect ensures good sun exposure across the growing season, allowing Nebbiolo to achieve full phenolic ripeness, while altitude moderates temperatures and preserves the natural acidity that gives Verduno Barolo its defining freshness and lift.

Wines from Neirane display the rose petal and dried herb aromatic signature typical of the commune, with bright red cherry fruit, a saline mineral note on the mid-palate, and supple tannins that are firm but accessible in youth. The mixed soil composition gives a slightly more textured character than the pure Tortonian marl sites — there is more grip on the finish, a quality that rewards patience in the cellar but rarely demands more than eight to twelve years before reaching its expressive peak. Neirane occupies an honest middle ground in the Verduno hierarchy: less celebrated than Monvigliero, less studied than Rocche dell’Olmo, yet producing Barolo of consistent quality and genuine commune character. For producers and collectors seeking an authentic expression of Verduno at a more approachable price point, Neirane deserves serious attention.
