Serraboella is a large MGA in Neive that wraps around the hillside, encompassing parcels with both southwest and southeast exposure at 200–270 metres altitude on Helvetian Serravallian marls. This dual exposure gives Serraboella an unusual complexity: the southwest parcels deliver power and concentration; the southeast parcels contribute aromatic finesse and freshness.

The Terroir The result bridges the gap between the elegant Barbaresco commune wines and the powerful Gallina style, delivering mineral precision, floral aromatics, and structural depth simultaneously. Few Neive MGAs offer this balance of power and approachability in the same bottle. That rare wrap-around aspect — southwest for power, southeast for perfume — lets a single Serraboella bottling capture both faces of Neive at once, a balance few sites in the commune can offer.

The Critical Take The Cigliuti family have made Serraboella one of the most consistent and celebrated single-vineyard Barbarescos: structured but not heavy, complex but accessible after ten years. The wines show dark cherry, dried rose, iron, tobacco, and tar, with a tannic framework that integrates without demanding extreme patience. Structured yet accessible after a decade, powerful yet perfumed, Serraboella in the Cigliuti hands is one of Neive’s most consistent and complete single-vineyard Barbarescos.

At the Table Serraboella’s blend of power and aromatic finesse makes it unusually adaptable at the table: it suits brasato and braised game as readily as truffled tajarin, roast veal, or porcini risotto. A young bottle benefits from a ninety-minute to two-hour decant; serve at 16 to 18 degrees in a large Burgundy glass. It becomes expressive after about ten years and holds fifteen or more in good vintages. That combination of depth and drinkability — rare in Neive — makes it one of the commune’s most rewarding wines to cellar and to serve. Its rare ability to satisfy both the seeker of power and the lover of perfume makes it an ideal wine for a mixed table, where it will please the drinker who craves structure and the one who prizes fragrance in equal measure. Buy it by the case, and it becomes a dependable, endlessly adaptable companion for a decade of winter dinners.
