Quintodecimo

I have reviewed three wines from Quintodecimo, all from the 2024 vintage, across Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo and Irpinia. Scores range from 94 to 96, averaging 95; the highest is the 2024 Quintodecimo “Jaune D Arles” Greco Di Tufo (96 points). Quintodecimo also features in two journal articles on this site.

Quintodecimo is the personal project of Professor Luigi Moio, one of Italy’s most eminent oenologists and a defining force in Campania. Founded in 2001 in the hills of Mirabella Eclano in Irpinia, the small estate applies scientific rigour and single-vineyard precision to the region’s native grapes, treating Falanghina, Greco and Fiano with the reverence Burgundy gives Chardonnay.

The whites are studies in site. Exultet, a Fiano di Avellino from high vineyards in Lapio, is textural and elegant, with pear, hazelnut and honey on driving acidity. Jaune d’Arles, named for the golden hues Van Gogh loved, is a Greco di Tufo from volcanic soils, partly fermented in small oak — the most powerful and structured of the whites, flinty and smoky. Via del Campo shows how far Falanghina can go, aromatic and lifted with a mineral crunch. The Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio blends Fiano, Greco and Falanghina, fermented partly in new French oak and aged on the lees.

Aglianico is the red heart of the estate. The Grande Cerzito Taurasi Riserva, from volcanic soils rich in ash and pumice, is a wine of monumental structure, and Vigna Quintodecimo is the estate’s other great Taurasi.
