San Cristoforo is a south-southwest-facing MGA in the Barbaresco village commune, at 175–230 metres on Tortonian blue-grey marl soils — the calcareous, marine-sediment-rich formation that defines the western Barbaresco zone’s aromatic expressiveness and textural generosity. The name references the local religious and agricultural heritage of the Langhe, a landscape in which chapel dedications, family names, and topographic features provided the vocabulary for vineyard identification across centuries of viticulture.

The wines from San Cristoforo display the elegant, perfumed character for which the Barbaresco commune is prized: lifted rose petal, cherry, and spice on the nose; medium-weight silky tannins, fresh acidity, and a clean mineral finish on the palate. The southwest aspect provides warm afternoon sun exposure, producing Nebbiolo with full phenolic ripeness and good concentration without losing the natural freshness that makes Barbaresco such a versatile partner at the table. San Cristoforo is best approached after seven to ten years, at which point the tannic structure has softened and the aromatic complexity has opened fully, continuing to develop with interest for a further eight to ten years. It is a legitimate Barbaresco MGA of honest quality and clear commune character, deserving of greater attention from international collectors.
