Valeirano is among the most prestigious MGAs in the Treiso commune, a south-facing site at 260–330 metres on Tortonian blue-grey marl soils — among the most elevated and mineral-rich terroir in the Barbaresco DOCG zone. The site has been associated with La Ca’ Nova and other serious Treiso producers who have demonstrated Valeirano’s capacity for producing Barbaresco of exceptional quality, structural authority, and long-term aging potential.
The combination of Treiso’s considerable altitude, the Tortonian marl’s calcareous richness, and a south-facing orientation that ensures full phenolic ripeness produces Nebbiolo of great intensity and complexity. Wines from Valeirano show a composed, serious character from an early age: rose petal, tar, iron, dried herbs, and mineral earth on the nose; firm, structured tannins on the palate with high acidity and a long, saline finish that signals genuine cellaring potential. The wines are typically slow to open — twelve to fifteen years of bottle aging is the appropriate expectation for the finest vintages — but they emerge with layers of complexity that place them among Treiso’s most compelling Barbaresco expressions. Valeirano is a site of ambition, minerality, and high quality that deserves wider recognition as one of the appellation’s important and underestimated reference points.
