Inama

I have reviewed three wines from Inama, from the 2021 to 2022 vintages, across Soave and Veneto. Most are Garganega. Scores range from 94 to 98, averaging 96; the highest is the 2021 Inama “Vigneti di Foscarino” Soave Classico (98 points).

The Inama family is synonymous with the revival of Soave Classico. Stefano Inama was among the first to show that Garganega, planted on the steep volcanic slopes of Monte Foscarino and farmed for low yields, could make world-class white wine. Inama has been at the forefront of rebuilding Soave’s reputation, and it also pioneered Carmenère in the Colli Berici, where the Bordeaux variety found a home in the red clay soils of the Vicenza hills.

The estate’s most famous label is “Vigneti di Foscarino”, from a historic high cru where old-vine Garganega develops remarkable depth and minerality. It is a profound, structured, age-worthy white that invites comparison with great white Burgundy: ripe yellow apple, chamomile, pear, white flowers and citrus zest over flint and crushed stone, with a creamy yet vibrant texture and a long, savory finish. The 2021, a great white vintage, drinks beautifully now and can age another ten years.
