I have reviewed one wine from Kofererhof: the 2023 Kofererhof Valle Isarco Kerner (96 points).
Kofererhof is one of the brightest stars of the Valle Isarco (Eisacktal), Italy’s northernmost wine zone. The farm has been in the Kerschbaumer family for more than 850 years, but it only began bottling wine in 1995 under Günther Kerschbaumer. Its high vineyards at the foot of the Dolomites give white wines of piercing minerality and freshness.
The estate is famous for Kerner, Sylvaner and Riesling, which combine the aromatic exuberance of these German varieties with an Italian texture and weight. These are alpine wines in the truest sense: crystalline, tense and full of energy.
The Kerner shows how compelling a lesser-known grape can be in the right place. Fresh, vibrant and precise, it bursts with green apple, citrus and white peach over floral notes, with a distinctive minerality and crispness from the altitude. It is a beautiful example of Italy’s regional diversity and of what Alto Adige does best.
