I have reviewed one wine from Noah: the 2020 Noah “Rocce di Luce” Bramaterra Nebbiolo (96 points).
Noah is a tiny, artisanal project in the Bramaterra appellation of Alto Piemonte. Founded by Andrea Mosca and Giovanna Pepe, the winery is dedicated to recovering abandoned vineyards in this wild, forested corner of northern Piedmont. They work with Nebbiolo, Croatina and Vespolina, farming naturally and vinifying with minimal intervention, in the garagiste spirit of the Alto Piemonte revival.
Bramaterra’s volcanic sands give wines of nervous energy, acidity and saline minerality. “Rocce di Luce”, Nebbiolo with Vespolina, is one of the purest Nebbiolos you will find, made in very small quantities. The 2020 offers red cherry, wild berries and crushed rose petals, earthy tobacco and a mineral note from the volcanic soil, fine-grained tannins, bright acidity and a balance of power and subtlety, finishing long and clean with a touch of herbs. It has the structure to age beautifully.
