2021 San Lurins Ribolla Gialla Sparlking
San Lurins Ribolla Gialla Sparkling is a lovely expression of Ribolla Gialla, one of Friuli’s most iconic old grape varieties.
I have reviewed one wine from San Lurins: the 2021 San Lurins Ribolla Gialla Sparlking (90 points).
San Lurins is a small, artisanal boutique winery in Friuli, committed to preserving local grape varieties and celebrating the region’s heritage. It is best known for Malvasia Istriana, which it makes dry, structured and intensely floral, with apricot, sage and sea spray, sometimes with brief skin contact for texture and aromatics.
The estate also makes a sparkling Ribolla Gialla from one of Friuli’s most iconic old varieties, a refreshing alternative to Prosecco. It balances floral aromas with fresh minerality and a lively citrus palate of lemon and pear, reflecting the cool character of Friuli Venezia Giulia. With bright acidity and delicate bubbles, it is a natural aperitif and a match for light seafood, sushi, prosciutto with melon or fried appetisers.
