The Pigato from Terre Bianche represents one of the purest white wines of Liguria which comes from a family-owned winery located in Dolceacqua near the Mediterranean coast. The Pigato grape variety which originates from Vermentino grows best in the steep vineyards above the sea because maritime breezes and mineral-rich soils shape its distinctive character. The wine presents salty and floral characteristics with deep aromas that include yellow peach and citrus zest and Mediterranean herbs and crushed stone. The wine presents itself as vibrant and textured while maintaining coastal freshness and finishes with pleasant bitterness and almond notes that enhance its food pairing potential. The Pigato wine from Terre Bianche undergoes stainless steel fermentation and aging to preserve its pure and precise character. The wine pairs well with seafood crudo and grilled fish and pesto pasta and also suits a casual sunny afternoon. I truly love this wine
2023 Terre Bianche Pigato
Terre Bianche is a family-owned reference point for extreme viticulture in western Liguria. Based in Dolceacqua, near the French border, it farms terraced vineyards on steep slopes above the Mediterranean. The name comes from the white marl and blue clay soils of the Rossese di Dolceacqua appellation.
Its Rossese is light in colour but intense in flavour, with roses, white pepper and sea salt: a red for white-wine drinkers, elegant, spicy and savory.
The estate’s Pigato, a Ligurian cousin of Vermentino that thrives on steep slopes above the sea, is one of the purest whites of the region. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, it is salty and floral, with yellow peach, citrus zest, Mediterranean herbs and crushed stone, vibrant and textured, with coastal freshness and a pleasantly bitter almond finish. It is a natural match for seafood crudo, grilled fish and pasta al pesto, and captures the fragile beauty of the Ligurian coast.
