Italian wine world recognizes Giuseppe Quintarelli as a name which produces a deep resonant sound across Valpolicella and all its surrounding areas. People discuss Quintarelli as if it were more than a winery. Quintarelli represents the devotion of a men and family responsibility together with a relentless pursuit of perfection in winemaking.

During the last hundred years the Quintarelli family has established its reputation through their estate located on the eastern slope of the Negrar Valley in the middle of Valpolicella. Since Silvio Quintarelli established the winery in 1924 his son Giuseppe also known as Bepi achieved worldwide recognition which led the winery to maintain its dedication to traditional methods alongside patient winemaking. Bepi’s influence is incalculable. The years he dedicated to manual label writing combined with the ten-year Slavonian oak barrel aging developed a signature Amarone style which established itself as the reference point for many Italian winemakers.
The current management of the winery rests equally on the shoulders of Fiorenza together with her husband Giampaolo and their sons Francesco and Lorenzo. The Bepi’s legacy lives on as they maintain his principles. The vineyards span twelve hectares across volcanic and limestone soils and remain chemical-free while producing limited yields to protect the land and its fruit quality.
The grapes undergo appassimento because this traditional drying process allows winemakers to extract concentrated elegant flavor from their fruit. The drying process of Amarone grapes leads to extended fermentation times and multiple years of oak barrel aging which amounts to eight to ten years before bottling. The Valpolicella produced at the winery undergoes a ripasso fermentation process using Amarone lees to achieve exceptional structure and depth that is uncommon in its category.
The unique aspect of Quintarelli stands in their practice of releasing wines only after they have reached full readiness and meet their quality criteria. They choose to release their wines only when they achieve the desired perfection level. In difficult vintages the winemakers choose to abstain from making Amarone. Such self-control has disappeared from the contemporary wine industry. The mindset remains pure without any commercial elements.

This wine represents the estate’s first creation since its inception. This sweet dark wine offers endless layers which make it perfect for ending a memorable dining experience. It’s also one of the reasons I became a sommelier at young age. I still remember the first sip I had of Quintarelli’s reciotos.

Each bottle of Quintarelli contains more than wine since it embodies the family and a whole wine region history. These wines exist to be aged and contemplated because they require time for reflection. These wines deserve to enjoy slowly, at the end it took years for them to be ready.
Be mindful, Quintarelli produces wines in restricted quantities.
