I have reviewed four wines from Marisa Cuomo, all from the 2023 vintage, all from Costa d'Amalfi. Scores range from 94 to 95, averaging 95; the highest is the 2023 Marisa Cuomo “Furore Rosso” Costa d’Amalfi (95 points). Marisa Cuomo also features in one journal article on this site.
Cantine Marisa Cuomo is the epitome of heroic viticulture. On the plunging cliffs of the Amalfi Coast at Furore, the vines grow on small rock terraces, trained on traditional pergolas and worked entirely by hand, breathing briny sea air. The estate was founded in 1980 by Andrea Ferraioli and Marisa Cuomo and is dedicated to ancient indigenous varieties, some of them ungrafted.
Fiorduva is the crown jewel and one of Italy’s most iconic white wines: a blend of the rare local grapes Fenile, Ginestra and Ripoli, luminous and profound, with apricot, honey, tropical flowers and a powerful saline minerality. The Furore Bianco, from Falanghina and Biancolella, is the essence of the coast — crisp, saline and citrusy.
The reds and rosé are made from Aglianico and Piedirosso. The Furore Rosso is savory and spicy with red fruit and Mediterranean herbs, and the Costa d’Amalfi Rosato is a classic coastal rosé of wild strawberry and pomegranate with a crisp, dry finish. These are wines that capture the rugged beauty of the Amalfi terroir.
