Meroi

Paolo Meroi is a master of the grand style of Friulian white wine. Based in Buttrio, in the Friuli Colli Orientali, known for its warmer microclimate, he makes rich, textural, age-worthy wines that stand beside the world’s finest. Unlike the lean, acidic whites further north, Meroi’s Friulano, Sauvignon and Chardonnay are often fermented and aged in French barrique, which gives them Burgundian weight and complexity while keeping the minerality of the ponca (marl) soils.

The Ribolla Gialla is a serious, contemplative example for lovers of great white Burgundy. With a few years in bottle, the 2018 offers baked apple, yellow pear and toasted hazelnut woven with vanilla, sweet spice and flinty minerality. Full-bodied and creamy, it balances richness with vibrant acidity and ends long and savory with citrus peel and almond. Meroi’s wines are golden and intense, the peak of power in the Colli Orientali.
